Hotel Bedroom Inspiration – The Ultimate Guide to an Elegant Bedroom

a hotel inspired bedroom

Have you just returned from holiday and already miss the lazy days by the pool, meals out in tavernas, and eating a month’s worth of calories in a week?

We all have different things that make a holiday special, but the one thing I often miss is the pure luxury of a hotel room and being surrounded by beautiful and calming interiors.

I’m not talking dorm-style hostels or those crazy last-minute, 3-star hotel rooms where the shower is more than a drip and you can hear the guests next door through the paper-thin walls.

It’s the high-end hotels with their refined aesthetics, attention to detail, and superior comfort that make it a struggle to leave for your buffet breakfast! :)

Hotel Bedroom Inspiration

If you are looking for a guide to help you create an elegant hotel style bedroom, this guide will walk you through the steps to creating a room where you can almost hear the waves crashing outside.

Hotel Room Colors

One of the hallmarks of a hotel bedroom is its ability to evoke calm and relaxation and this often starts with a neutral color palette. Hotel room colors tend to incorporate shades of white, beige, taupe, and gray that create a serene backdrop that allows other design elements to shine.

Choosing the Right Hotel Room Colors

  • Neutral Base: Opt for soft, neutral wall colors. Whites and off-whites work well for a fresh, clean look. Consider using a satin or eggshell finish for a subtle sheen.
  • Accent Colors: Introduce accent hotel room colors through accessories such as throw pillows, rugs, and artwork. Soft blues, greens, or even metallics like gold and silver can add a touch of luxury without overwhelming the space.

Accent Wall

Hotel style bedrooms love an accent wall, often behind the bed. It helps to create a striking focal point that draws the eye and highlights the bed as the main feature.

Using a bold hotel room color that contrasts with the rest of the room can create a dynamic space and make the wall stand out. It can also help add depth and dimension to a room, making it feel more spacious and interesting.

  • Dark Shades: A darker shade on one wall can create a sense of depth, making the room appear larger and more sophisticated.
  • Three-Dimensional Elements: Incorporating three-dimensional elements like moldings or wainscoting can add architectural interest and a sense of depth.
  • Color Coordination: Choose a color that complements the bedding, furniture, and other decor elements that can create a cohesive and harmonious look.
  • Thematic Elements: If the room has a specific theme, such as a coastal or vintage style, the accent wall can incorporate elements that reinforce this theme.
  • Softening the Space: In a hotel style bedroom with mostly neutral or soft colors, an accent wall can add just the right amount of contrast to prevent the space from feeling monotonous.

Symmetry and Simplicity

Hotel style bedrooms have to appeal to a wide audience, so simplicity is key. Make sure you have plenty of storage space in your room to stop it from becoming cluttered. Invest in nightstands with lots of storage to keep your

Luxurious Bedding

Another important factor in creating your own hotel style bedroom is by adding luxurious bedding. Nothing says luxury like plush, high-quality bedding. The bed is the focal point of any hotel room, and it should be the same in your home.

I love the feeling of climbing into bed after a busy day of holidaying, a hotel bed engulfs you in coziness and the pillows should have a cocooning effect. The bigger the better!

Investing in Quality Linens

  • Sheets and Pillowcases: Invest in high-thread-count cotton sheets. Egyptian or Pima cotton are excellent choices for their softness and durability. Aim for a thread count of at least 300 for a balance of comfort and breathability.
  • Oversized Bedding: If you have a double bed, opt for a king-size duvet and make sure you go for the biggest pillows your bed will allow.
  • White Sheets: Most hotels I’ve stayed in have white sheets and duvet covers. They give the perception of cleanliness and the neutrality of white means you can change or update other elements of your room easily.
  • Duvets and Comforters: A fluffy duvet with a crisp duvet cover instantly adds a hotel feel. Choose down or down-alternative comforters for the ultimate in softness.
  • Pillows: Mix and match pillows to create depth and comfort. Include a combination of sleeping pillows and decorative throw pillows. Memory foam, down, or down-alternative pillows offer superior comfort.
  • Layering: I don’t think I’ve stayed in a hotel room without a few throws, blankets, and comforters. Layering your bed is one of the easiest ways to make your bedroom feel luxurious.

Furniture Choices

Hotel bedrooms often feature furniture that is both stylish and functional. The key is to choose timeless pieces and have a sense of grandeur without being overly ornate.

Selecting the Right Pieces

Bed Frame

A statement bed frame can set the tone for the entire room. Consider upholstered headboards for a plush look or a classic wooden frame for a more traditional feel.

Nightstands

Choose nightstands that offer storage and complement the bed. Matching nightstands on either side of the bed creates a balanced look. You want your nightstands to be big enough to place a large lamp and possibly a vase with flowers.

There also needs to be shelves so that you can add books, notepads, and anything else you need to hand when you are in your bedroom.

Dressers and Wardrobes

Opt for elegant dressers with clean lines and quality finishes. Mirrored or glossy finishes can add a touch of glamour.

Seating

Does anyone use a wardrobe when they stay in a hotel? Although I make a half-hearted attempt to hang up dresses and jackets, most of the time my suitcase gets left on a chair and I live in my bikini.

This is why seating is so important in a hotel style bedroom. I don’t think I’ve stayed in a hotel room without an occasional chair or sofa. As you are normally confined to one room, it provides somewhere to sit (obviously) and hopefully comes with a view.

If space allows, include a seating area with an armchair or a small bench at the foot of the bed. Choose a seat in velvet fabrics or are upholstered to add to the luxurious look.

Desk

If space allows, adding a vintage or modern desk to your bedroom is the perfect way to transform your room if you are looking for hotel bedroom inspiration. Opt for high-quality materials like wood, metal, or glass with finishes that match your bedroom decor.

If your bedroom is on the smaller side, choose a desk that is not too bulky. A compact desk ensures it doesn’t overpower the room. You can position it near a window to take advantage of natural light or in a corner with shelves to make use of the space.

Also consider a desk with built-in storage like drawers or shelves to keep the surface clutter-free and complement it with an elegant chair that matches the rooms style and color.

Lighting

Another important element in a hotel vibe bedroom is the lighting. Proper lighting is crucial in creating an elegant and inviting hotel vibe bedroom, and lots of it!

It will serve multiple purposes such as being brightly lit to apply make-up and get dressed, dimmers for a softer, romantic feel, and moveable reading lights.

  • Overhead Lighting: A chandelier or an elegant pendant light can serve as a statement piece. Make sure it provides sufficient light for the room.
  • Task Lighting: Bedside lamps are essential for reading and adding warmth to the room. Choose lamps with dimmers to adjust the light as needed.
  • Accent Lighting: Use wall sconces, under-bed lighting, or LED strip lights to highlight architectural features or artwork.

Soft Furnishings

Incorporating various textures and fabrics can add depth and warmth to your hotel style bedroom, making it feel cozy and luxurious.

Selecting the Right Textiles

  • Rugs: A plush area rug can anchor the room and provide a soft surface underfoot. Choose materials like wool or silk for a truly luxurious feel.
  • Curtains: Heavy, floor-to-ceiling drapes can add drama and elegance. Opt for fabrics like velvet, silk, or linen. Blackout curtains are also a practical choice for improving sleep quality.
  • Throws and Blankets: Layering throws and blankets at the foot of the bed adds a cozy touch. Look for cashmere, wool, or faux fur for added luxury.

Artwork

One thing that can really help elevate a hotel style bedroom is the artwork. Most hotels will take a thoughtful approach to the artwork they display, whether that be by a local artist, to mimic the landscape and scenery around the hotel, or a large abstract painting that is the highlight of the room.

Select artwork that complements the color scheme and style of the room. Large, framed pieces can create a focal point above the bed or on a feature wall.

Accessories: The Finishing Touches

Accessories are where you can inject personality and style into your bedroom. Thoughtfully chosen pieces can tie the room together and add that final touch of elegance.

  • Mirrors: Decorative mirrors not only add style but also reflect light, making the room feel larger and brighter.
  • Vases and Flowers: Fresh flowers or high-quality faux arrangements in elegant vases add a touch of nature and freshness.
  • Candles: Scented candles can enhance the ambiance with both their fragrance and soft, flickering light.
  • TV: This creates the ultimate relaxing space in your bedroom, you’ll never want to leave. Although I am not a huge fan of having a TV in the bedroom, if you are looking to create a hotel like bedroom, it is worth giving it a thought.

Don’t Follow the Trends

One of the elements that makes a hotel style bedroom stand out, is its individuality. Most luxury hotels have hired interior designers to create exceptional spaces, and this is one of the reasons why I always come home from a hotel feeling inspired!

This is where your creativity can achieve the perfect look. It is important to infuse the space with your personal touch. The best way to achieve this is;

  • Invest in quality materials that last longer and help avoid the need for frequent updates that follow trends.
  • Steer clear of patterns and colors that are currently trending, as they can quickly become outdated.
  • Incorporate accessories that have personal meaning or classic appeal rather than those that are trendy or seasonal.
  • Keep the tech setup simple and unobtrusive. Avoid overly complicated or large tech setups that can detract from the room’s elegance.
  • Be consistent with your choices, ensuring that everything in the room works together harmoniously.
  • Opt for elegant chandeliers or pendant lights with a timeless design.

Maintaining the Look: Clean and Organized

Now, if you are going all in on the hotel vibe, it is so important to keep your bedroom looking as pristine as a hotel suite, so regular cleaning and organization are key.

Tips for a Well-Maintained Space

  • Daily Tidying: Make the bed every day and keep surfaces clutter-free.
  • Regular Cleaning: Dust, vacuum, and wash linens regularly to maintain a fresh and clean environment.
  • Smart Storage: Use storage solutions like baskets, bins, and organizers to keep everything in its place.

Creating an elegant hotel style bedroom inspired by the luxury of hotel interiors is all about attention to detail and quality.

By choosing the right hotel room colors, investing in high-quality bedding, selecting timeless furniture, layering lighting, and incorporating various textures, you can transform your bedroom into a serene and sophisticated retreat.
